Iceland, a land of Ice and Fire

But we'll get more into the "Ice and Fire" of things later.  Today I'm posting the first batch of photographs from my very recent trip to Iceland!  The Journey started more than a year ago when my awesome brother Ryan McNab suggested that I accompany him on a pretty epic vacation.  What followed was months of planning followed by one of the most incredible experiences of my life!  I truly hope my photographs can capture even a bit of awe inspiring landscape that we witnessed.  I am splitting this trip up into the days that we explored, each day representing different regions and types of landscapes, because the varying landscape is literally unbelievable.

Today's photographs represent our first day of exploration.  We explored some of what is call the "Golden Circle" which included Pingvellir National Park, where the fault line between Europe and North America is exposed, as well as the Strokkur Geysir and then we made the drive to Akranes to see one of the most picturesque lighthouses in the country.

Bala 2014,

The final shots from my Bala vacation were taken in Gravenhurst, of the Steam ship docks.  My Favourite of these is the shot of the two steamships docked.

Bala 2014 Update 3:

These are my personal favourites from the series.  There is definitely a reason why most photographers get up at insanely early hours to catch the magic light.  There is always something different about the light in the early morning, and it has never failed to allow me to capture satisfying images.  The black and white conversions of these images definitely helps add to that mystic quality as well, making the ordinary seem anything but.

Bala 2014 Update 2:

I've finished some more edits, so here they are.  My fav of these is the one of my brother Ryan caught in the act of poaching my hummingbird shots.  I think between the two of us we spent more time trying to catch a good shot of those illusive little critters than we did on any other subject.

Bala 2014,

I'll be posting a few new shots over the next few days, all taken over the last week during my summer vacation in Bala, Ontario in the heart of Muskoka.  This trip, while a little wet, and not exactly warm, reawakened my passion for photography.  I definitely have not been producing the work I had been in past years, and I'm going to try to remedy that starting with this batch of images, and after that I will try for weekly updates even if it's just one shot.  To start here are some shots taken in a swamp near the cottage we stayed in as well as some evening shots of the beach...I think there was a ...shadow in the the first shot, you decide.

Scarborough Bluffs

Scarborough Bluffs is a place that I did not expect to discover nestled at the bottom of Toronto.  It seems a world away from the Toronto that I know.  Of course, being there before sunrise certainly adds to the feeling of otherworldliness, but even once the morning was well started it still felt serene and beautiful.  I would recommend any of my photographer friends to explore this place and share what you find there as well.  I went expecting to find a nice place to take pictures...what I found was a reawakening of the passion I felt the first time I dropped a sheet of B&W paper in a tray of developer and watched an image take shape.
